Orange Farm is a large, rapidly growing township and informal settlement located approximately 45 km south of Johannesburg in the Gauteng Province, South Africa. Established in 1988, it is one of the youngest and most isolated communities in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.

Poverty: An estimated 70% of the population lives below the poverty line.
Social Challenges: The community faces significant issues, including high crime rates (ranked among the top 30 dangerous precincts), gangsterism in schools, and gender-based violence.
Recent News (January 2026): In early 2026, five men were arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of two women found in the nearby Poortjie area. Political groups like the DA continue to advocate for better basic services in informal sectors like Tjovitjo.
